Case Study: Ian Munsick x Schaefer Outfitter Collaboration

Big ideas are fun.
Watching them take shape with the right people behind them is even better.

This collaboration between Schaefer Outfitter and Ian Munsick brought together two names deeply tied to Wyoming, Western workwear, and a shared respect for doing things the right way. Over the past several months, McFarland Productions had the opportunity to support both teams as this project moved from early conversation into a fully realized collection and story.

Our role centered on connection and clarity. Making sure the right people were in the same room. Helping shape the narrative so it stayed true as it moved across product, creative direction, and launch planning. And protecting the core of what made the collaboration meaningful from the beginning.

Where it started

This project didn’t begin with a concept that needed to be built from scratch. It started with alignment that already existed.

Schaefer Outfitter has spent decades building apparel designed for real work, real weather, and real environments. Their focus has always been durability, function, and consistency, with a strong foundation in Western tradition.

Ian Munsick brings a modern voice to country music while staying closely connected to the land, people, and places that shaped him. His storytelling carries the same grounding force that defines much of the Western lifestyle itself.

When those two worlds came together, the opportunity wasn’t to create something new in isolation. It was to reflect what was already there in a more intentional, unified way.

What guided the work

From a production standpoint, the priority was not to amplify the story beyond what it needed to be. It was to keep it accurate, grounded, and aligned with lived experience.

A few principles stayed consistent throughout:

  • Keep Wyoming at the center of the narrative, not as a backdrop but as the foundation
  • Let the product stand on function and quality first
  • Avoid over-explaining what already speaks for itself
  • Maintain space for both Schaefer Outfitter and Ian Munsick to remain fully themselves within the collaboration

The strongest collaborations don’t blur identity. They preserve it while creating overlap where it naturally exists.

How it came together

As the project developed, McFarland Productions supported coordination between teams, helping ensure creative direction and product execution stayed aligned. That meant translating conversations into clear next steps, maintaining consistency across storytelling, and making sure decisions stayed connected to the original intent.

A large part of the work was simply maintaining clarity as momentum built. In projects like this, things can easily become more complicated than they need to be. The goal was always to keep the throughline intact.

When everything is working, the story doesn’t need to be pushed. It holds together on its own.

The result

The Ian Munsick x Schaefer Outfitter collection feels grounded in place, purpose, and familiarity. It reflects the environments it was built for and the people who already live that lifestyle.

It is not a reinterpretation of Western culture. It is a continuation of it.

The collection officially launches August 18.

Closing

McFarland Productions is grateful to have played a supporting role in bringing the right people together and helping shape how this story was carried from concept to execution.

The most rewarding projects are the ones where everything already makes sense, and the work becomes about helping it stay true all the way through.
