Guest Speaking: Sharing Stories and Building Connections at Texas A&M

Did you know the mascot of Texas A&M University isn’t actually the Aggie? It’s a Collie, lovingly known as Miss Rev.

The McFarland Productions team learned that fun fact while guest lecturing at Texas A&M University, where Natalie had the opportunity to speak to Professor Tanya Hamner’s Media Production class. The visit offered a meaningful opportunity to connect with students, share professional insight, and experience the strong traditions that make Texas A&M such a special place.

During the class, Natalie led a guest lecture on one of her favorite subjects, the art of interviewing. Specifically, she focused on how to create the space and conditions for a truly successful on-camera conversation. It’s a topic close to her heart and one that aligns deeply with the storytelling philosophy at McFarland Productions. As she shared with the students, interviewing isn’t just about asking the right questions, it’s about curiosity, connection, and care for people. When done well, it transforms a simple conversation into a story that resonates.

The students’ participation and questions sparked meaningful discussion about authenticity in media, the power of empathy in production, and how to approach storytelling with purpose. The class also explored how listening with intention can turn even the most ordinary conversation into something powerful and memorable.

After class, Professor Hamner introduced Scout and Natalie, to one of her students who works at 12th Man Studios. The student gave them a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, which produces live and marketing content for Texas A&M Athletics. The studio was both impressive and inspiring, proof of how the university blends classroom learning with real-world experience.

The day ended with a tour of campus, led by Professor Hamner, who shared the history and traditions that define Aggie culture. The team’s favorite story was about Miss Rev, the university’s beloved Collie mascot. Over the years, several remarkable dogs have carried that title, and each is forever honored in front of the football stadium, with their own scoreboard so they never miss a game.

The visit was both rewarding and inspiring. It reminded the McFarland Productions team why they value speaking opportunities—whether in classrooms, at alumni gatherings, or on professional stages. These events create space for meaningful conversations about communication, creativity, and storytelling. They’re also a chance to share real-world experiences with the next generation of communicators and creatives.

McFarland Productions is passionate about engaging with organizations, universities, and conferences that value authentic storytelling and connection. The team believes that the best stories don’t just inform, they inspire.

Special thanks to Professor Tanya Hamner and Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for the warm welcome and opportunity to share their passion for storytelling. The team looks forward to returning in the spring!
